SPOILERS
I had never read the book series but heard it was wonderful and had it sitting on my to read list for years now. When I heard there was going to be a Artemis Fowl movie, I got excited. I figured it would give me a taste of the series and make me want to read the books (even if they are for a younger audience). But after this movie, I would never want to touch the book, let alone read it (if it wasn't for everyone saying the two are very different).
The characters were all bland with no real ambitions. The characters didn't even have enough personality to identify development by the end if they didn't directly point it out. I felt like my TV was skipping scenes throughout the movie, yet making time slow down all the same.
They tried to hide the plotless story with large action fights and moving scenes, but by the end, it felt like I had finished the first episode in a television series (although a series based off this movie could be used as torture. I fear a sequel). But with any movie you can tell characters are terribly miswritten and dull if you don't care when they are fighting a giant monster or dying and you need to fight the urge to fall asleep.
The ending came fast and left me asking for more information. We still don't know what the villain was planning to do with the magic object of why the Fowl's had it in the first place. And the fact that I am not waiting for the answers in the sequel shows how dull the plot and characters were.
