I’ve just seen the movie. So this is fresh in my mind.
That movie was unsettling. The cgi was terribly unfinished. Feet don’t touch the ground. So the dance numbers seem weird. The feet sometimes float or go through things. The dancers sometimes stretch weirdly or twitch into place.
Worst of all, it had some of the worst music I’ve ever heard in my life. The clownish carnival music was downright terrifying. In fact, all the music is just horrible. It’s so so awful. It’s completely and utterly dated. It sounded like a horrible 80s carnival. There’s no redeeming qualities to any of the music except Jennifer Hudson’s main song at the end. It was a good performance of “Memory.” But that’s not. Lord, it was all so dramatic how Hudson over-acted.
The movie is bad. It’s just bad.
It has some good dancing. Hayward was pretty good. There are some scenes I enjoyed, such as the scene in the house with the two mischievous cats and the tap dancing railway cat. But those songs were pretty nice. So that made the difference.
Overall I did not really enjoy the movie. I was hoping for more of a showcase of clever dancing but panning camera shots and quick cuts made it hard to focus on the action.
