I met Carla, she came to Sabaoon and spent earnest time with the young boys (ex militants under our care). She tried to understand with empathy and compassion the roots of this malaise. There was no one answer and she understood well that the scaffolding that leads to vulnerability is complex, and yet the spur that leads to recruitment is mostly the "moment"
No one is born a militant or for that matter a hero, says Zimbardo and I agree with him. Whereas many journalists have been skeptical about this initiative taken by The Pakistan Army, Carla was no doubt interested to learn about this unique partnership with civil society (Our NPO) and how The higher command gave us the latitude to develop and implement the program, and provided security.
Regardless of the situation and or the country, Carla espouses a hope, an inclusiveness in her effort to understand extremism radicalization militancy recruitment. The footprint of compassion grows larger. Thank you Carla.
