I loved this book its up there on my list with "To Kill a Mockingbird" but let's get this straight, this book isn't written for elementary school kids they don't understand many of the concepts and aspects of this book but that doesn't mean that they can't read it. If your kid is smart enough to read it then let them read it and stop about the SOCIETY!! The book in in a dystopian area and theme they are not going to have the same customs things in their culture are not going to be the same in ours. Yes it has some things that I wouldn't read to my first grader unless they were ready but sexual urges are part of life if your kid is mature enough then let the kid read the book. If you think that this book is to mature for your kid let them decide for themselves so the karens and soccer moms that rage at kids for bumping into their carts at the store chill out sit down read the book let your kid read the book they might like it they might become more mature because of it, and figure this out now they are going to grow up and whether or not you like it they are going to become exposed sooner or later but this isn't exposure this is a book about becoming more human and growing up so maybe you should.
