This movie is shot in bright colors with plenty of music. But setting racism in a lovely setting is still racism. Song of the south shows slavery in a kind, gentle manner. Shows the slaves kept on this plantation with free will and choice. This movie waters down how slavery is portrayed. If you are afro American, you can see the overt racism. You can see how your ancestors had to work in the fields, serve the master in the big house. You can see how your people are portrayed as uneducated empty-headed people who can't speak proper English and sing for their supper. If your white, you see this movie as a sweet tale of your childhood. The point is when this movie was made; it was created with that in mind. For once white privilege, try to think of yourself as one of those singing slaves the next time you watch this film. It won't be so sweet.
