I started watching this on Amazon, quite a while since it's original release, I didn't know what to expect, at first I thought it might be an action TV show as it was showing us Sean Penn working out and looking ripped as f*** thinking here's our action hero.....but no....what I got instead was something so refreshing and so unique in its own regard that seriously made me give this show a 5/5.
If we break it all down no it's not a perfect series from a critical point of view. But as a viewer, I really loved this for everything it was and was not.
What this show has done so well was to focus on the emotional and relationship path that one has to take to become an astronaut it focuses on the acceptance of death first episode in and then takes us on a whole other level as we explore the characters past and present relationships.
The dialogue is very real, very well written, the acting is also very dam convincing, Sean Penn gives an amazing performance in this emotional rollercoaster.
The expressive/ artistic visual style of story telling with flashbacks metaphors and analogies also suited this TV series very very well, it makes you feel and also wonder...for a lack of a better description.
The soundtrack, was very very suitable but it could have used some more variety, I'm just nit picking here.
This TV show was honestly refreshing as it's not your standard soap opera drama or romantic drama, no this feels like a realistic outlook of what these people would have to think about and deal with when signing up to be astronauts.
I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to enjoy something different, no there is little to no "action" but this is not the point of this.
