This doesn't look like a remake of anything. It looks like they took different aspects from multiple variations of the legend and put all the parts that's could work together and made this movie. which doesn't seem to bad. This movie was based on a legend and had things China used to have back at that time. It’s better than other remakes because most of the remakes I saw were based on the animated and the only difference was the voices of the characters. This movie was based on history so it clearly showed they have done the research. And I see why you may think is bad but this is my point of view. Now another point is the different races think of different things. For example Mushu from the animated Mulan. He is a dragon some people think dragons are bad and they're the villains to be slain. On the other hand, Chinese people think of dragons as power and brave. There are a bunch more similar things. I have done my research about this movie and I seemed to enjoy it. Yes once you see it you get confused but trust me when you do research on it the dots connect.😊😉
