The first half was significantly better than the plodding second half. The final 15 minutes might be the most boring action sequence ever put to film. Shang chi - never feels like a hero, his abilities are never really explained. He gets powers at random out of nowhere. Just not up to Marvel standards. My barometer is usually "a year from now , this is on cable - would I watch it again?" Here, sadly, its a resounding "nope". The lead actor is actually good w terrible material and awkwafina is just wasted talent here. Could have been much better with a tighter script.

Im about 4 hours in. Iterally every single quest is a variation of " kill 10 rats" or " gather 10 sticks" Im lvl 10 or so. Ill give it a bit longer but so far it feels very poorly thought out. The setting is great. The combat feels designed for consoles. But the immersion factor is zero.

There are about 3 video games all time featuring a middle aged guy as the protagonist. I dont care about representation of other genders, orientations - thats all perfectly fine with me. But the developers made such an iconic duo out of the main chars in the first game that to not only brutally murder Joel but to also force us to play as his killer for half the game is unforgivable. Will never play another Last of Us game ever again.
