Excellent. The Ghost of Christmas Past is terrifying again. I completely understand the concept of bringing the classic story, with all of its own original trappings, into a world that we 21st century-ites can see with the eyes that would have read the book in 1843. Think of how frightening that third ghost would have been then. Then think of how, following that intensity, how necessary Scrooge's redemption would have been. The readers needed relief. Release.
And that's what this production brings back. It's not just a charming tale of Christmas anymore. It belongs here. With us. Now.
It's not your grandma's Christmas Carol, and sitting here in 2020, that's a good thing.
