(SPOILERS WARNING) As a native Floridian, I instantly saw through the stupidity of this movie. Honestly, it took me awhile to take this movie seriously, I was waiting for the main character to wake up from a dream or something to explain the nonsense like when the alligator just randomly bursts out of the stairs... (They don't do that, gators only attack a human if threatened or mistake them for typical prey). Nevermind the idiotic decision of going out in a cat. 5 hurricane... But, I tried giving it the benefit of the doubt and tried moving past it's over dramatic view of the alligators and obvious poor decisions. Where I gave up is when scientific reasoning went out the window and inaccuracies took over. Let me explain:
There are several scenes where the gators bite an arm, a leg, etc. And just hang on for awhile before letting go. In real life, they'd chomp through like a hot knife through butter due to the sheer strength and psi from there incredible jaws. And even if they didn't, they certainly would not let go. Their jaws clamp and lock on.
Secondly, there was a lot of hissing and "scary moments" of them hunting. In reality, they're silent and only charge if the opportunity calls for it. They're not like sharks which is what the movie wanted to portray them as.
And the one point that takes the cake... The dumbest thing about this film... The main girl is supposed to be faster than AN ALLIGATOR. smh. At one point, the dad tells her she's faster than the alligators and she wins in a race between them and her... Just.. *sigh*.
I get it. She's athletic, been a swimmer all her life. But as we see in the first few minutes of the film, (a swim meet while a hurricane is coming? Really? Irl, everything would be shut down days in advance) she's not that fast. And even if she was, the top speed a human has ever been recorded to swim is 5mph. An alligator however? Much. MUCH. Faster. On land they can Sprint around 20-30mph and swim much faster. So how could she have possibly stood a chance?
And let's not forget how miraculously a helicopter (being a lightweight aircraft) can somehow manage to find it's way to a specific house, in the middle of a extremely powerful HURRICANE. (The storm was really played down throughout the entire film)
All in all, this movie made absolutely no sense... Just ridiculous. 👎
