We loved Katla! Excellent apocalyptic drama. Very appealing actors doing great work. Very inventive story that “changelings” appear in a bleak wasteland to provide hope, albeit in a mysterious, creepy way, to an unsuspecting village. The director augments the strangeness of every scene with piles of ash coating everything, a constant, overcast sky; think of a blizzard environment made of ash. The cinematography is stark; black and white, craggy rock formations jutting from a churning sea, and pale muted colors throughout. This story hits you visually and emotionally while you’re continually compelled to see what explanations happen next.
