Farcry New Dawn is a fun game, think fallout meets farcry 4. I really enjoyed farcry 4 so I figured I’d give this game a try. Farcry 4 has good repeat value with fun guns, entertaining vehicles and a wild arena mode. It’s a shooters paradise of a game if you haven’t played it. The good: great graphics, astounding visual and sound work, base building feels rewarding. All pink everything. Guns are very cool and the tier system gives progression a rewarding feel. The bad: “hard fights” are usually just exhaustingly endless waves of enemies and certain mechanics are nearly useless like the squirrel suit. The ugly: many problem solving mechanics feel repetitive. Many of the difficult moments are direct knock offs from Metro Exodus Per say the bear fight. At its worst it lacks originality.

I think the game exceeds expectations hence the 4. Like other reviewers said art is cool and story is on point. The dice/card core mechanic is actually really inventive. If anything the game falls short in trying something new. I can tell early in development they became attached to 6 zones (some more loved than others) and while great it means the content or roughly 15 hours is split between those locations. Maybe this is odd but I loved the world and wanted to spend more time than once or twice in a given space. If zones had been cut and given the story more room to breath it would have been a 5 for me. There are technical short comings, dicey bugging and the environment not wanting you to climb ramps but all in all it’s one of the stronger small studio games in recent memory. A real testate to the kind of thing EA should be funding in the future.
