You always worry when you hear there is a sequel in the works. Yes, you’re excited to get more to the story as they very rarely stand up to the original work. You tend to get the feeling that you are about to witness a cash grab work of mediocrity that diminishes the first film.
Doctor Sleep is not as solid as the Kubrick’s film and I don’t think it’ll be listed as a classic. It has some elements that are warmer and of course offers more than a few that are bound to keep you up nights. The acting is well well done as are the technical elements, casting, special effects, etc.
I won’t go on too long and dither about the specific minutiae of the film that I thought could have been better or worse. What I will say is I really enjoyed the film. My one main complaint is that this 2 hour and 30 minute film could have, should have been longer to develop certain elements that I wanted to see more about, many of which were, for what I assume the sake of expediency and run time, kept shorter. I also state this whole noting that the film does not have wasted space. I enjoyed this film. I really enjoyed it. I wish it would have been longer.
