When I watched Uncut Gems.
It was some time ago when I was watching a Theo Von podcast.
The guest was Timothee Chalamet and he mentioned a movie called 'Uncut Gems', to which Theo Von immediately responded.
He said that movie was really good but the way he said it, I knew immediately that it must have something.
On the other hand Timothee Chalamet said, the movie he is working next is with the Directors of Uncut Gems, the Safdie brothers.
He even mentioned, their set is as energetic as it must have been in the sets of Uncut Gems.
That was my cue to Google about the movie and first thing I noticed is Adam Sandler, in a very different look.
After some binge-reading, I found out it is about the betting world and is available on Netflix, the only OTT platform I have a subscription, presently.
All the things were aligning and in the coming weekend, I decided to watch the movie at night.
In the beginning, I found the background noise to be dominating here and there.
The protagonist played by Adam Sandler, his actions were not getting tied up properly with the screenplay.
In fact the cinematography was abstract and situations were ambiguous.
Being a film-making student, I knew those were some elements that were deliberately kept noticeable, but I had to discover yet, why!
Then there was this scene with The Weeknd!
The film was released in 2019, so I immediately related to how raw the story is.
After that, everything changes and you just get lured into the world, specifically the world of an American-Jewish person living in New York.
You would start to relax in the screenpla,y and suddenly you discover the magic that the Sadfie brothers were striving for.
It works beautifully and carries a higher energy that most other films lack.
Ending of this movie is probably the highest point, and there is never going back!
You have watched Uncut Gems and learnt about another reality.
Like every great movie, it teaches many important life lessons and you become a little wiser.
Adam Sandler has never used so profoundly as actors as he was in this movie.
An absolute blockbuster!
Powerful Cinema.
