I was late in joining the SATC Movement; however, once I latched on I was hooked. I loved every moment of the first SATC movie and could watch it time again. The second movie, was enjoyable as long as they were still in the states. I wished Carrie and Bigs marriage challenges had evolved around deeper matters...instead Carrie came across as shallow and whiny. Aiden...LOOKED GOOD!
Fast-Forward to Samantha in the Middle East. Too much and shallow on steroids. Borrowing from the New Yorker review of Carrie’s recent book on her book...I wanted to slap tape over Samantha’s mouth. Not certain of the correct spelling, but I kept hoping that an inter-friend-vention would have been engaged surrounding her inappropriateness. I’m menopausal, as are most of my friends...her hormone meltdowns were embarrassing. I was hoping the “Lawrence of Arabia” character would have evolved into something of more substance as opposed to what it turned into. It was a missed opportunity to add a bit more substance to Sam. Don’t get me wrong, she absolutely has beautiful moments and makes the foursome of friends complete. I wanted the writers to develop her character a bit more. At 52, she doesn’t have to become a prude...just a little more dignified...JUST A LITTLE.
Charlotte’s obsession with calling home to check in on her husband and the braless Nanny, could have handled in a less simple manner and still have achieved humor. I’m not certain how, but the writers are quite talented and witty and I believe absolutely capable of meeting that challenge head on!
Maranda/Miranda (sp) was the most evolved...possibly had the safest storyline...but I felt the proudest of her character has grown. Side-note: The mother-friend moment shared between Charlotte and Maranda was perfection...speaks volumes of Miranda’s evolvement! I apologize for the misspellings of her name.
I’m disappointed there won’t be a number 3, and realize that even though the script had already written...a 3rd installment would give them an opportunity to redeem 2’s shortcomings.
I do so love them, nothing can change that...the fashion is chic, classy, elegant and I would love to own every outfit; regardless that double the fabric would be required to fit me and they are the wittiest women ever!
