From The Lookout is a remarkable book. Thorough and yet very approachable, it brings to life a very special time for young women in the Midwest. For nearly 20 years an idyllic and enchanting location, coupled with a rich resource of aid and counsel was available to a small group of girls in the teens who wanted to learn of nature and to test themselves in a natural setting. The book gives a picture of all the activities available and also gives insight into just how it affected the lives of the young women lucky enough to wind up there.
Informative, enjoyable, eminently readable, this is a book nature lovers, historians and girls of all ages - heck and boys to - will want to look into!
