I loved this movie. It was phenomenal. They fleshed out the story so much better than the original Disney movie and you can tell they took influences from the Hans Christian Andersen Book. Prince Eric wasn’t just a “side-character” with a pretty face. They gave him a background and a family, even if it was a given family. I loved that all of the rest of the characters were fleshed out. Grigsby, the Queen, even Ursula. And even better, Tridents daughters were part of the story and it felt like there was a reason for them to be there. Not just for a weird Ariel party. Five stars, hands down.

This version was the one I grew up with. Never having seen the Broadway musical, I can't really compare it to anything else. I will say that this is my favorite version released. I don't like the other two more recent versions at all. I find them distasteful. This, however, is a classic. The musical numbers have and always will be my favorite. It was what I listened to all throughout my childhood. No child's young life is complete without this movie!
