I wanted this movie to be good. I was so hopeful that a director like Spike Lee might finally be able to nail the veteran experience, or at least part of it. But as usual it slapped with shallow cliches wherever they could fit them, even when they didn’t fit. The writing was lazy and had so many excruciatingly convenient things happen to keep the story moving. Aside from a couple of actors the rest of the performances were very very poor. I really wanted to love this movie. But if I were to use one word to sum it up, that word would be boring.

How are people giving this a good review? The only reason I didn’t leave is so I could say I gutted it out when people asked if I saw the ending (which I did....and it wasn’t worth it) Brad Pitt’s performance was amazing. Really really good. And the overall message you come away with is a good one. But holy hell did this thing drag. I’m not being dramatic when I say I was falling asleep. Watch it at home so you can play on your phone when things get lame.
