I give this 2.5/5 stars. This post will be free of spoilers from the main plot line.
A lot of people don't like the 'golf club' moment that happens within the first two hours of the game, I was all right with it. But the pacing of it was way off, happening far too soon. If they wanted to shock us, they certainly did.
For the second 'half' of the game you do have to play as the antagonist, and once learning the reason why she did what she did, it made sense to me, somewhat. But the way she brutally handled that golf club didn't seem fitting to the 'crime'. But after that, most of her backstory was very lackluster and boring.
The constant flash backs in time were terrible and jumped all over the place, should have been sequential. When side characters got into trouble or were killed, I didn't really care. (Remember when Sam & Henry died in the first game? You won't find anything so gut wrenching with side characters in this game.)
The ending? It was just far too sudden, offered no info on the in between on what had to be years since the antagonist and protagonist confronted one another. And it made very little sense.
The game is otherwise beautiful, combat is fun but very similar to the first game in that it can be monotonous. Dialogue between characters was rather boring outside of cut scenes as well as in. I had to replay the first game to compare the two, and whoever is writing dialogue for TLOU2 needs to be fired.
All in all, I wouldn't recommend this game. Save yourself $60 and watch a cut scene/no commentary play through on YouTube or just consider this game non-canon.
