Anyone leaving more than 3 stars is wrong. The movie is boring and the acting stale. Fight scenes are quickly cut and edited and are given the fighting wire effects that you see in movies like crouching tiger, or hero, but in these movies the effects are done much better than in Mulan. All the supporting characters are completely forgettable. The antagonists are just as boring as everyone else. And Mulan is completely unrelatable because she is played off as completely perfect without flaws. The movie feels like there is no weight or heart to it and that's without comparing it to the animated film. Comparing it to the original, there is no funny scenes. No songs. No love interests. And no Mushu and sure, I get that the film is supposed to live closer to the original Mulan story but here is why that's stupid. They had already added supernatural elements to the film, there is a bunch of nonsense mentioned with chi and the witch woman can transform into a flock of birds if she wants. change into other people. Defy gravity. All kinds of nonsense that would make you wonder why there isn't a small comedy relief moment with a wise cracking dragon. But instead they added a phoenix that is kind of just there. And I'm pretty sure a Phoenix has no right being in Chinese mythology anyway so they were never going for historical accuracy. There was even a live action Mulan film made back in 2009 that followed closer to the original story in the first place, so why they remade their original movie taking away the actual Disney magic is beyond me. Don't bother watching.
