I am glad to see representation here, I think it was well done and authentic. I'm distressed at the situation Renee was put in. It seems cruel to put two young children in a boat and send them off to "figure it out". I get it, it's a movie, but what a terrorising moment for Renee and for the young boy too. He clearly had the instincts to help, but not the tools. I'm more broken hearted for two capable children placed in such a precarious position than I am anything else. We can assume a good outcome, as that's what these things are about, but as a parent of a child with needs, I felt myself distressed watching and worried about a child with needs thrown on a boat alone with another child. I want to see representation, but perhaps with better supports? I'd not want people to get the idea that you can just throw kids together and everything will be fine.
