It was beautiful to watch, and the choreography and visuals/hair and make-up was great. The visual affects were good for what they had for sure. The plot, if there was one, was nearly impossible to follow. I could also never tell what age they were supposed to be. I saw an interview talking about how her best friend character's hair changes as the film goes, and it does but I don't understand why or what it's supposed to symbolize. There was no nuance as far as the issues addressed. It was very clearly supposed to be a social commentary, but it was way too on the nose to be impactful. Melanie has gorgeous facial expressions during singing, but the acting overall was subpar at best and I think it would have been better as just a music video with no speaking in between. I wish she had released a go-along program almost so that you could keep track of what was supposed to be happening.
TL;DR: the timeline was way too confusing as were the transitions in many many scenes. The choreography was amazing and the dance was far better than the acting.
