I'm a life long Star Wars fan and I absolutely love The Last Jedi. As much as I enjoyed the SW movies so far, I feel like they were caught in a recycle loop. TLJ peeled away from that loop and has now stepped in new and imaginative direction.
When Lucas made The Empire Strikes Back, he didn't do it on a conference call with fans. And when that movie came out, a lot fans didn't like it either including critics.
Yes, TLJ has a few plot holes, like every other movie out there. But ultimately it's a true Star Wars film. It's says you don't have to come from a long line of royal/powerful family to become a Force for the good. You can be from a junkyard planet of ignoble family or a stable boy of humble origins, but what makes you special is determined by the choices you make, not your family lineage.
