Watched it.. and it was insane! That being said. Spoilers. The main plot follows the games and the comics. So good on that. Fight scenes are intense with lots of blood and gore. And the fatalities are on point. What really brought the movie down was the character development of the main protagonist (cole). Most of the other characters were good. Sonya and jax we're on point. Special forces, ex military. Pretty cool there. Liu kang and kung lao were also in point and their fatalities were totally on point. Everything from kung laos quips to liu kangs intense stare downs. And we have Raiden. Which I feel and I hate to say it. TOO! asian. And I'm asian! Raiden felt like the stereotypical over powered asian god. He had no sense of humor and you never get that sense of zen. Like you would if you played the games. So it's painful to realize that adam lambert who played the original Raiden in the 1995 version of mortal kombat was not only better. He was more in line with the games character. Even the villains were totally on point. From Shang Tsung to prince goro. Which leads us back to cole. Of all the characters he was the worse. Bad acting, bad character storyline and worse development. The only redeeming quality was that he teamed up with scorpion. Cole was just plain painful to watch on screen. Every scene with him was bland and pointless. You just wanna fast forward to the points in the story where he just doesn't speak. And just as cole was the worse character. Kung lao was the best. And he wasn't even in the first half of the freaking movie! Kung lao just stole every scene he was in. He's snarky humour, quips and even his sense of sarcasm were not only entertaining. They were surprisingly funny and on point. He felt like he carried the entire movie when he was on screen. Which makes me wonder.. WHY THE HELL WOULD THEY SUDDENLY KILL HIM OFF!? And the way kung lao does wasn't even doing him justice. It was a total pussyfoot move. So in summary get rid of cole and mortal kombat would have easily scored a decent 4 out of 5. But it's gonna be a 3 out of 5 for me. E
