I truly loved “In & Of Itself”. For those viewers expecting to be wowed by a magician who, at end, makes the audience disappear... this is not that type of magic show. While there are impressive card tricks and displays of highly skilled card handling, the real magic is in the emotional journey. Derek DelGaudio’s performance takes you through a story of ups and downs, while watching real people have genuine emotional moments.
I just watched “In & Of Itself” for the 2nd time and found myself crying throughout the film, as I did the first time. (That’s not typically my “thing”, my wife will tell you.) It didn’t seem to matter that I knew what was going to happen next. I was still engaged and left reflecting on what defines us and shapes who we are. For me, “In & Of Itself” opens the door to vulnerability and brings to light the struggles and hardships that people around us often endure. It reminds us that we don’t have to be defined by a job title, an achievement or a race. Who we are is made up of many things, good and bad, and our story is unique.
I understand if after you watch this that it’s not your thing. It can’t be for everyone. But, what I will say is that you should watch it. Watch it with an open mind and an open heart. I can only hope that it connects with you the way that it connected with me.
Thank you, Derek. It was something very special.
