This film could have gone in any number of directions where it would have ended up cringe-making. Instead, Ang Lee has directed a remarkable film, one where you want to close your eyes and not see what the characters are thinking, protect one character after another from the hurt you know is going to happen.
Most of all, exquisite acting from the two leads, who never make a wrong move.
