Yes yes yes. Its one of those moments when you come across a movie that gets you more excited about the characters psyche rather than the plot itself and for very good reason. Ramsay is able to create a beautiful dissociation from the usual genre tropes and is able to subvert it to a more sensitive and nuanced treatment for the story and characters involved the story, resulting to a genre that seems to take an amorphous form which until you decide to give it a name. If you want to watch a typical thriller to get you all excited or simply quell your afternoon boredom then you might want to pass this one(although with enough patience and open mind, you can try tho). But rather if you are feeling down and depressed and want some commiseration that is so lacking in your life atm then this movie may be of some help. What do you think of the last frame or scene? You feel commiserated, at least for some time, like Joe? Let me know.
On a side note, its worth mentioning about the musical scores and the cinematography. It lulls you deep enough into the psyche of the characters for you to get lost and perceive your own feelings towards them.
