This interesting documentary discusses the concentration camps and genocide by Germany in Africa in 1904. The narrator of this movie has great additions with their cultural/community perspective, although the relation of the history by the Namibians can at times be lost by feel-good and matter-of-fact interpretations of European historians. Often their perspective can be jarring and shows a true disconnect emotionally. A few examples: The choice of a professional museum curator to show off a display with sacred and mundane items scattered indiscriminately. Another was a historian saying, "Some call him a racist...I don't bother with what to call him he was my uncle and a great storyteller and linguist!" Okay....so he DOES call him titles that are the truth, he just picks and chooses which to speak on at length. The film is full of examples such as this, and it is up to the viewer to understand what they are seeing in real time, though again the narrator helps.
