The movie creates an eerie atmosphere, which adds to the scare and suspense, and of course, the horror.
So, how do you beat something that can only be seen in the dark, but is so powerful in that domain? The development of the story leads to where the haunting started, but one could never have guessed how the evil presence could be stopped. It is, of course but a figment of a fantastic reality created by the imagination of the writer, but nonetheless, a concept not present in the numerous horror films ever created (or perhaps those I have seen). Fantastic (as in "fantasy"), but logical.
Deep in the movie is still the value of loving the people who matter to you - your family. At the end of the day, you don't leave a loved one alone, no matter how perilous it may be. Though the concept is new to me, the themes on keeping together to fight an enemy, and looking at the history of something to be able to deal with it are also prevalent in the film.
It may not be the scariest, but seeing the jump scare moments and the chase scenes can give viewers a heart pounding experience. It wraps everything up with a universal message of a mother's love... may be cheesy, but deep.
