It is fascinating how Madison explains how factions can infringe on personal and societal freedoms. His argument that a weak central government (the Articles of the Confederation) would be unable to stop any faction in power from oppressing another. A strong Central Government (the Constitution) would be able to keep and hold a tight balance on any and all competing factions and interests. Considering how long the Constitution has lasted and how freedoms for the minorities are present still (or are still being fought for), I would say that his argument is entirely valid.
