I felt this was one of the most intelligently crafted movies, on topics that speak to the root of the (many) problems with race in the USA. In addition, I have never seen a movie blend so many genres and do it SO well; they seemed to include nearly every major one.
When you consider the topics at hand, they did it very gracefully and with care. I feel it's the end of the movie, that drew the bad reviews. I don't say that because they missed the mark, I say it because some won't be able to handle those scenes (that is the point..). There is so much in that film, when it comes to unstated and underlying themes, you have to look deeper to really understand it. If you just casually watch it, you won't get it (just like real life problem).
The important part is this, I think this movie will get the conversation going even more and it showed our history in a new light, at least for me. It's time to open our eyes and look at the world in front of us...
