Living in the present cannot be done by following laws, but as a Spirit-led day-to-day process
This book makes a clear, powerful stand on how to live in the present.
With conspicuous observations of how we in western society don’t do this, the author reveals techniques, speech patterns, and lifestyle practices to aid us in how to live moment to moment.
For anybody who has studied theology or philosophy of any kind, one powerful conclusion that we can gain about life, is that living in the present is a key to peace and joy.
The question of course is: ‘how?’
Ichigo Ichie presents all the methods we can employ to do this.
From breathing exercises, to dialogue injections, to 10 principles of the philosophy, it’s a comprehensive guide.
The only problem—and this is a large one—is the challenge of application.
To apply this to life, is to live another form of law.
Any philosopher will know that humanity as a species struggles with living by law.
We will naturally try to change, add, or subtract from it. It’s just our way.
In keeping in mind this folly of the human condition, a more complete understanding of Ichigo Ichie, would be to relay this brokenness that we all deal with; a reluctance easily described as ‘disobedience’ or ‘rebellion.’
Regardless, the book makes a solid point with good supporting observations of the human plight.
