**UPDATE 10/20/20
I have beaten the game and have started my 2nd play through. The story is awesome. If you don’t understand, play the first one and then this one. I feel that players who don’t won’t truly appreciate the story and, for me, who did play the first and got to the end of this one, it brought me to tears. It truly is a great game with a fantastic story and beautiful score. Download the patches and get over some of the clunky game play. Rule of rose, Clocktower, Haunting grounds all had similar clunks in movement but you overlook it for the story.
*Unless you download the patches, the game will not be enjoyable.
*Unless you play the first game, Tormented Fathers, you won't get some of what the game has to offer.
**All of the above, My Opinion.
I am a HUGE fan of the first game. Story, Score, Atmosphere and Characters. The *Run and Hide* gameplay style is something I have always enjoyed. Not everyone will.
I am not finished with the second game but AFTER I downloaded the patches, most of the bugs went away. Score and story are great so far.
My only complaint is with the game publishers, itself...
They released the game a week early to get it out to the gamers before Halloween. I can understand that from a cash-grab perspective.
The fact that the game was basically unplayable hurt a lot of people's perspective of the company and the game as a whole. Patches or not, the game wasn't ready and now all that can be found are pretty awful reviews, mostly from players who couldn't even get a few hours in without rage quitting. This is an amazing world that the writers created and my fear is that because of a stupid decision, the reception will tank any possibility of a 3rd game. *If there is one after story wise.*
So...
If you have played it but quit due to bugs, please download the patches and edit your original review, if your opinion has changed.
If you have been holding off due to the reviews...I do recommend the first game to start. You wanna be fully wrapped in the world before taking flight in the second one.
