*Spoilers*
It was a close race, but tired out with a rushed ending at the finish line. It almost seemed as if the creative team went through great strides of developing characters and a great story....then rushed the final act to stay under some time restriction.
I liked that the movie expanded on what the first movie was trying to say with its incoherent message (and later elaborated on with its sequels)... with the original films, it felt as if the franchise figured out its identity along the way...this reboot should have summed it all up as one cohesive story....and it did!... until the last 15/20 minutes.
Imo I think it was a missed opportunity to cover the same important themes but with a fresh new take. I liked the idea of Sherman being the candyman. I liked his story. I wish they carried on with the idea that the candyman torch is passed starting with Sherman. So much time was spent with shoe-horning the original story and forcing a twist about the main character's identity to where it didnt make sense....when it could have cut all of they out along with useless backstory of the main characters gf and gave the origonal convoluted franchise a new beginning.
Regardless I'm glad I watched and hope to see more installments.
