I have seldom been so disappointed in a film. It is only tangentially about the battle of Midway. It's really a human interest story not an historical look at the battle itself (which would have been infinitely more interesting than watching a couple of guys floating in the water for an hour or so.) Even the CGI is poor. You can tell it was made by kids who grew up watching Star Wars. The planes in the movie are way too fast and maneuverable and the sky is as full of them as Tie Fighters circling the Death Star. If you think I'm being hyper critical, just have a look at movies such as The Battle of Britain and the 1976 Midway that used real aircraft. The latter was a film that actually WAS about the battle of Midway and except for the silly and unnecessary American boy-Japanese girl sidebar, was a pretty good flick that told the whole story of the conflict from all levels including the Japanese perspective.
History has enough real life drama to be interesting but today's culture demands micro-stories that reflect current memes (oh yeah, and a couple of sharks circling around makes it waaaayyyy cooler too!)
Thumbs down to this millennial-focused waste of time.
