i just lack words. i am convinced someone came to the executives with an idea called "the empire" based on the clones, and the executives said "but we want a good IP". so then someone said, "foundation is for sale", and they decided to shred the foundation books and puke out this piece of garbage.

When the characters are stupid, you know the writers are just not good. When plot holes are so bad you facepalm, you know the writers are lazy. And when fans of the games go "huh?" you know that the writers don't care about the source material. When Umbrella Corp has security worse than a basic university lab, you know the writers are just in for the paycheck. This is bad on every level and there are no excuses.

Amazing what a gifted director can do with a classic when he loves/respects the material. Best movie I've seen *in years*. I fully acknowledge that adaptations require changes. Villeneuve changes what needs to be changed (can't have a character monologuing for 10 minutes), but preserves the spirit and intention of the novels.
