Now I know a lot of people went into this film ready to hate it, but I went in with low expectations so that I would NOT be disappointed. However, this movie largely tipped the scale of bad cinema that it disappointed me more than I could have imagined. The movie had a lot of potentially cool ideas that were not supported at all by the previous films. This trilogy felt more like three independent films than a true trilogy. It is a shame how Disney, Rian Johnson, and J.J. Abrams destroyed this potentially great trilogy. There was obviously no planning, only cash grabs and fan service that made no sense. The big reveal could have made sense in this film if it was backed up, same with all the new "force abilities" never before hinted at. This film was a hollow cash grab, which is a shame. The plot consists of constant vapid callbacks, misuse of old Carrie Fisher unused scenes from films prior, potential consequences to actions that are then immediately revoked which removes any weight to them, and poor character writing (among other poor writing choices overall). Was it fun? Sure, if you are blind enough to miss the huge plot holes and flat characters and their choices. The tl;dr of it is that Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker is a huge shame of a movie.
