Olivia Rodrigo has become the legendary breakout star of 2021, shattering records with her debut song 'Drivers License'. For people who don't watch Disney, this young lady might seem like she came out of nowhere, but she's been in the game for a while. Many labels offered her contracts after her viral song 'All I want'. She then signed into Geffen Records.
The main audience for Olivia is young ladies. When this song first came out, I didn't understand the appeal, but I do now. The song would go on to be number 1 in the charts in many countries. She then followed up with Deja Vu. She then released her song 'good 4 u', one of my favourite songs from her. It's a kinda pop-punk song that reminds me of the 2000s.
I would describe her album as a diary where she lets out all of her frustration on her ex.
Olivia has stated many times that she's inspired by Lorde and Taylor Swift, and I can totally see that. The sound of Deja Vu and the vocals reminds me of Lorde a little. You can tell she's inspired by many people. I can hear a bit of Paramore, Taylor Swift, Lorde to even Conan Gray.
The album is a combination of weary ballads to pop-punk inspired music. It's a decent collection of songs. Overall, I wouldn't say I'm a super huge fan of her, but I am excited to see where her career goes and I'm really rooting for her as a gen z myself. Many of my friends often mention her and how much they love her, even my sister is a pretty big fan.
