After watching the movie again in recent times it's not as bad as I had initially thought, despite the questionable acting at times and also the script can be poorly written. A lot of new stuff was brought to the star wars universe very quickly in this movie, this made it hard to absorb it all which probably lead to poor initial review, but when you watch it with the rest of the prequel trilogy you can respect its importance.
Jar Jar Binks is still pretty annoying and the movie still could've survived without him, I feel Jar Jar reduces how serious the movie takes itself.
I think it would've worked better if Anakin was a teenager instead of a naive kid when it comes to acting and as logic would have it.
Music was great as always and I can appreciate how bold of a decision it was to use so much CGI, especially for the time, even if that decision was for budget or what have it.
Darth Maul was a cool character and I would've liked to of seen more of a character progression in the rest of the movies, not just Phantom Menace.
I would've liked to of seen more of Obi Wan in the movie as I feel that would've given us a greater emotional connection to the character especially considering his relevance in the rest of the universe.
Overall, the movie is entertaining, even though it has a bad rep. I think it deserves more respect than it has.
