I don't even know where to start with this movie. I am very much a hopeless romantic and have watched a LOT and I mean a lot of romance movies and this is by far my favourite movie of all time throughout all genres. Despite all of the lessons of life it teaches as mentioned in the other reviews I'd like to mention a few other things.
I've watched this movie over 7 times and it still makes me teary at the end. If you decide to watch this movie; which you should; I would recommend you watch it a second time about a day after or so because there is so much depth to it that you definitely miss some things the first time around. I've watched this movie so many times and I still continue to find things I hadn't noticed before, which bring the story together and make it even better. What still astonished me though is that Tod Kessler was inspired to write this movie by a short 17 page book by Ron Carlton (I belive is the author). The reason for this is that I read the book and it's honestly awful, if I had read it before watching the movie I prabably never would have watched it. It does have some moments and Tod definitely got some good ideas from the book but overall the movie is quite different and exponentially better. I do wish though, for the movie to be written in paperback as a book so I could read it and keep it with me because I love it so much.
It is not a typical hight school romance movie. It has depth, pure love, realistic life and high-school struggles, amazing acting, a great plot, good cinematography, an excellent soundtrack and it also has some of the best lines I've ever heard in movie history. If this movie were to be released maybe this year or 2020 I think it would have more success, but it is also refreshing to know that it's sort of like a hidden gem. I absolutely love Keith's character and how Jesse McCartney played the role; like I want me a Keith.
People like to compare it with a walk to remember and call it a bad copy of it but I think it the opposite. I've watched "a walk to remember" - because hopeless romantic--and I have to say I think it is overrated, I mean I liked it overall but it is slightly overhyped and was honestly boring, it had no climax and felt flat. The ending was also predictable and not as sad as people say it to be, but to each their own. I also don't see a reason for comparing the two seeing as spoiler alert there are plenty of movies with similar arcs and plot lines, but the two aren't even that similar.
Overall I love this movie and recommend everyone to watch it
10/10😊
