While initially, I enjoyed this film for its challenging of gender norms and creative liberties taken to portraying masculinity and feminity from a sex-positive feminist lens not seen often in film.
My delight for the film quickly faded as it was revealed that the primary PoC character in the movie stole the strap-on. I mean, G-d forbid a Person of Colour not be portrayed as a criminal. Was Fred Phelps a writer for this film or something?
A VERY regressive choice by the director that leaves this film; while interesting at first; feeling more like 'The Birth of a Nation' (1915) in the way it portrays people of different races than what a feminist film of 2018 should do.
I seriously do not recommend this film for anyone who has suffered systematic racial abuse or any other sort of racist assault at the hands of the white patriarchal oppressive regime.
