So you decide to show Chief’s face- okay I can deal with that. You decide to race swap Miranda and Jacob Keyes- that’s fine, the actors portray both of them well. For some ungodly reason you decide to change the names of Fred, Linda, and Kelly even though the silver team members are virtually the same- weird as hell but I can tolerate it. What I can’t tolerate is how the show dwells on characters and subplots that are remarkably stupid. It feels like there is a lot of time being pissed away building Kwan as a character, discussing the civil war on her home world, John’s memories which are vague, and drawn out. It’s like the writers are allergic to directing the story towards the things that actually matter in the halo universe; you know, like the forerunner, the human-covenant war, the political state of high charity. Given the remarkably poor pacing up to this point, I don’t imagine the flood being introduced for multiple seasons. Fall of reach? We’d be lucky to see it happen by the finale of season 2. The show does a few things well- its depiction of the covenant races are very intimidating. When you get a legitimate fire fight (once every 4 episodes) the ensuing carnage is rather visceral. Chief, Cortana, Halsey, Miranda, Jacob, they’re well casted. But otherwise the show is a MASSIVE waste. I continue to try to give it the benefit of the doubt that it needs time to develop the world, but it seems to only be getting worse, as if distracted from the overall point of Halo.
