A really poor representation of the book. Heavy-handed and rushed without a bit of the subtlety of Suzanne Collins’ world. The casting of Coriolanus Snow was pretty good though honestly he was more likable in the movie than the book. Rachel Ziegler, while a beautiful singer, didn’t play Lucy Gray at all as she was written. She was portrayed as volatile, hateful, and angry instead of clever, composed, and eternally charming. The dynamics between the capital students learning about their own humanity and the fact that the District children were people much like them was totally abandoned for overdramatic fight scenes that never happened in the book. The best possible choices this movie made was casting Peter Dinklage as Dean Highbottom and Viola Davis as Dr Gaul. They were both spectacular as always.
