I like Reef Break but do think they have Kat (Poppy's character) written as too cocky and narcissistic. There's a GREAT dynamic between her and her FBI Husband (tho, seperated) when they are on screen together. The Sparks between her and straight laced Detective Wyatt is hit and miss. They should've written Petra? (The Young girl she's helping who's father she killed), as her daughter.. yet, there's time to throw that TWIST in there. I think she's suppose to almost symbolize a younger version of herself.
It does have an 80s vibe that could've been edited and cut better. This is almost 2020. And the background music is included in that assessment, as it is random and sometimes blended over the top of the dialogue and takes away rather than setting the mood or enhancing the scenes.
Do I like the show? YES, it is nice and light. Doesn't make you think too much and isn't too complex. Reminds you of Magnum PI BUT with maybe a tinge of the lighthearted BBCs Death in Paradise but instead of having a clumsy detective (Humphrey (the time I liked the series)) you have a narcissistic fixer and former thief, with a supporting cast. She's no Ray Donovan in Paradise if that's what you are looking for or expecting, you'll be totally disappointed.
Do I see this show lasting too long.. No, not as it is NOW but they may be able to turn it around and it has GREAT bones and it has potential. For now, I just see it as a time slot filler, tho. BUT still worth watching if you want something LIGHT. I admit I will watch it. Especially, since I am curious about what direction they'll take her and her nemesis she ratted on in prison/jail.
