Seeing it again, I am amazed at how artful this movie is. Starts off as a rom-com with one of the prettiest actresses ever on screen, she is a delight to look at, and descends into a hell of merciless attacks. The playgirl eventually shows her mettle and rescues the children, and others, from the attacks. This is her story, as well as how she fits into the love circle of Mitch, his mother and sympathetic ex-lover. Nothing prepares you for the onslaught that to this day, still is state of the art. Nothing beats the final shot of them driving away into a mysterious void. That shot, which is obviously a myriad of overlays, is as haunting as any painting by Munch. Hitchcock will always be the best.
