SNL---what can I say? I have devotedly watched the show for decades. Still, to this day, the joy and fresh feeling of subversion and silliness of the 1st 5 seasons has remained the top, the best ever. There have been brilliant casts since: the years with Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman and Jan Hooks, Will Ferrell, Cherie Oteri and Molly Shannon, Tina, Amy & Jimmy, and the Kristen Wiig & Fred Armissen years, for example. Amazing, wonderful, and FUNNY. I watch the current 5 year cast and love Kate, Cecily, Melissa, & Heidi....the guys are getting better: Beck, Mikey, Alex, and Kennan is always good. BUT, I watch 5 shows in a row these days and only one is funny. 1 out of 5 repeats. That is a very poor average. My wife says it is the writing. M. Che laughs & giggles at his own poorly written jokes, and we are not laughing at all. Key point: it is either FUNNY or not. These days, sadly, it is NOT. Too bad.
