Wonderful acting and dialog by / for Christian Bale and Caitriona Balfe as Mr and Mrs Ken Miles – really good soft Brummie accents and Brummie figures of speech: worth seeing just for their brilliant performances. Shout out for Noah Jupe (their son, Peter) too. Matt Damon seemed just ever so slightly too smooth as Carroll Shelby, but Tracy Letts as Henry Ford II looked and sounded believable.
Some great in car footage (if you ignore wearing seatbelts, which they didn't in the race), albeit spoilt by the CGI car crashes, there being no need whatsoever to spice up the action. And some great comedy bits (particularly when Shelby takes Ford for a ride in the GT40) – but most of all the film is a tribute to Ken Miles: quite remarkable of Hollywood to acknowledge one of Birmingham's finest sons.
As motor racing films go, 'Le Mans 66' / 'Ford vs Ferrari' is right up there with John Frankenheimer’s ‘Grand Prix’.
