As a kid I loved the original Reboot. It's sense of humour, the action, characters, style, all were brilliant.
Move onto The Guardian Code and it's nothing short of an offence. Why? Allow me to explain...
The story is basic, with the allotted time far too short for what could have been a fantastic spin off.
There's little room for character development, the kids who are the new Guardians, go from playing characters in a video game to suddenly being able to kick and attack, combined with gymnastics that would make a gold Olympics winner envious. No human would suddenly be able to do this.
The threat of death is like "oh, OK, we can die. But it's fine."
There is a girl who is an A.I. who becomes human. Dear lord what an awful character to play. Its so generic and cheesy. I do feel sorry for the actors, as its not their fault what they've been given to work with.
In the virtual world, the graphics are very dated. They look like early 2000s, and a rip off from the Iron Man films.
The majority of the threats posed are quickly resolved, and unrealistic too.
If you want a similar show, think the original Power Rangers. But where that had charm and, in some respects, a purposeful cheesiness, this has none.
This show had potential, but time restrictions, sloppy writing and bad graphics let it down. And down it goes like a lead balloon.
Please, just let this show go, or bring back the first....
