Living in LA, I love(d?) the Jimmy Kimmel Show. When Guillermo arrived as a sidekick I thought, "what a hoot?, this guy was the parking lot attendant at the Hollywood Blvd. lot and now makes way more money than I do as a college professor." It was a good laugh when the show was in the theater. Then the show moved to online ans everything changed.
I grew up as a gringo in Mexico City. I have always loved that existential fatalism that makes working class Mexicans come across with humor and a kind of Zen resignation. I think that's what Jimmy picked up in Guillermo and why he saw a real gold mine for late night TV.
But online, I cringe at the use of Guillermo as a happy-go-lucky tequila swigging know nothing who shows his stupidity and ignorance every time he is asked to. I cringe. I leave the show and go watch Set Myers or Steven Colbert.
