What I love the most about this movie, it is that a lot of Brits in here hate the fact they did not single handedly defended their isle in 1940.
There were many from the continent fighting for the Allies. And Poles were exceptional pilots with a lot of experience in maneuvering and formation flying - something new recruits always struggle with. This gave them a leg up to keep up with much more agile and beginner friendly Bf109 and this movie focuses on that in the first part.
I appreciate that whenever a foreign language would be spoken IRL, it is spoken in the movie. It is not used as an easter egg but to build atmosphere and to build some characters or to prove they are well educated (Iwan's character speaks French, German, English and Polish of course).
But the most important part of this movie is the ending. The fact that these men never gained any credit, were executed upon their return to their homeland (for helping Allies and not Comintern) and generally a footnote on a list of footnotes in a history of WW2. THAT is the biggest take away, that Allies again caved in to yet another tyrant to prevent yet another war and willingly, willfully even, forgot these men.
They are getting statues now all over the world. There's a beautiful one in Prague for example. Statues, for executed heroes and better half of century of darkness and injustice. But statues are not as portable and convenient as a movie, so definitely give it a wath\ch if you are into WW2
